Passing Through

poems by
Janet Kenny and Jerry Jenkins

My personal congratulations to Jerry H Jenkins and Janet Kenny on this great collaboration. Passing Through is not only a strong collection of poems, but perhaps more importantly , a strong collections of observations about birds, our relationship with them, and our similarities with them. I'd read and enjoyed a lot of Janet Kenny's work before, but I'd had not seen any of Jerry Jenkin's work before. I'm glad finally to have made his poetic acquaintance. There are poems in this collection that I especially enjoyed, always for the obvious craft that went into their construction, their strength, their beauty and the impact they had on me as a reader.

Under the Scrimshaw Moon (CD)

poems by
Shann Palmer Shann

Palmer's poems are fearless. She aims her language at the gorgeous (and terrifying) center of the ordinary, convinced of poetry's divine purpose: to help us face our fears, our sadness and our loss, to help us face ourselves. And to sing with joy at the stranges of the world.

The Song of the River

poems by
Francina Hartstra

From the preface poem to the last Francina Hartstra takes us on a journey down the river she loves so much. Along the way we catch glimpses of the life on the banks but it is " the roaming water gypsies" who sing the songs that draw us in, envious of their freedom and vision. With her pen Francina deftly paints word pictures on which our imagination can expand. There is a haunting lonely quality in much of her work which does not detract from its beauty.

It ranges from comic poems as "An Ode to Stilton" to the enchanting story of the "Daughters of Lihr" For those who are familiar with Andrew's poetry will most certainly enjoy his new book. I especially enjoyed reading his poems "Caer Caradoc", "The Sea King" and "Peacocks and Candles" Andrew masters the art of writing narrative poetry in such a compelling way what brings the legends alive for his reader's eyes while leaving enough room for our own imagination

Seven Beats a Second

Poems by
Allen Itz & Art by Vincent Martinez

(The poems) I like the best are the ones in which he uses the authenticity of this South-Texas voice to turn our preconceptions about what that voice might say on their ear ... the art reminds me of jazz, having a lot of colorful sound to it ... it looks improvisational like jazz.

The book is one hundred sixty pages – and there is art on every page. Paired with his poems, the paintings by Vincent Martinez add visual exclamation points – in some cases. In other cases the artwork really looks like a vital part of the poem. And in a few places the art stands alone on the page – no poem to stand shoulder to shoulder to – just a work of art standing up and having its say in a way that reminds me of an extemporaneous speaker.

Rainbow Reflections

poems by
Marie Calhoun

Rainbow Reflections are my poems of life. They are all written from the depth of my heart and soul and reflect on all aspects of living in this world today. They are words of faith, hope, and love. To all who read them, I wish that they may walk through each day knowing that there is always a rainbow at the end of each trial and tribulation. That there are many blessings to appreciate as the sun comes up and sets each day. May you watch for the rainbow in all your tomorrows.
